Standard Trip Cancellation Vs. Cancel For Any Reason Trip Insurance

The main difference between cancel for any reason trip insurance and standard trip cancellation insurance is that cancel for any reason trip insurance allows you to cancel your trip for any reason, while standard trip cancellation insurance only allows you to cancel your trip if you have an unforeseen event that prevents you from traveling based on the reasons allowed within the policy.

You can reduce your risk of being disappointed with a cancelled trip by purchasing trip cancellation insurance with a special upgrade option from Beacon Point Insurance. The first and standard travel insurance program is also called Trip Cancellation, which will pay up if you have to cancel any trips because something unexpected came up like illness or injury; the second option covers you if you cancel for Any Reason so that we’re there when travel plans don’t work out as planned- no matter why they happened!

Trip Cancellation

You will find basic trip cancellation coverage in every comprehensive policy. This will extend your coverage if something happens and you have to cancel your trip.

Commonly, travel insurance plans, including many cruise insurance plans, will cover reasons such as:

  • The unexpected death, illness, or injury of you and/or a traveling companion that deems you unfit to travel, by order of a licensed physician
  • The hospitalization or death of a non-traveling family member
  • Weather or common carrier related issues (varies by policy)
  • Unforeseen natural disasters at home or the destination
  • A legal obligation, such as being called for jury duty or to appear as a witness in court

The details of coverage for trip cancellation vary depending on the provider and the plan. If you need to cancel, you will be reimbursed for 100% of the prepaid, non-refundable cost of your trip if you can provide documentation that it was cancelled for a specific covered reason.

Cancel for Any Reason

Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR) is an insurance benefit that is available on some of the plans that are offered through some of our trip insurance companies. This benefit usually costs extra, but it can give you extended coverage that might be worth it.

Unlike basic trip cancellation coverage, the CFAR benefit has a few eligibility criteria:

  • Depending on the policy, only available within 10-21 days of initial trip payment
  • You MUST insure 100% of your pre-paid, non-refundable trip cost
  • Cancellation with the travel supplier must occur 48 or 72 hours before departure date, depending on the plan
  • Benefits may only cover between 50%-75% depending on the policy.

CFAR coverage means that you don’t have to worry about why you have to cancel your trip. You can just cancel it for any reason and be covered. Often, people purchase CFAR coverage when they are traveling to a part of the world where there is civil or political unrest. If you have a bad feeling or something happens that makes you uncomfortable, you can cancel your trip. You can do this if you are outside of 48 hours before your departure time.

Questions:

I bought a trip insurance policy more than a month ago. Does it cover me if I get Covid?

You can usually buy insurance policies up until the day before you leave. However, if you don’t buy within 10-21 days of making your trip payment, you might not be able to get some of the benefits, like the waiver for pre-existing conditions. Other benefits that might have time restrictions are things like terrorism coverage, being able.

As long as the policy certificate does not have an exclusion for Pandemics/Epidemics and there are no click-through agreements on the buy page asking you to agree that you will not be covered for Covid, you can be covered as if you were diagnosed with any other unforeseen illness causing a cancellation or interruption of the trip, or if you were required to seek medical attention during the trip.

If you need to cancel your trip or if it is interrupted, a physician must advise you to do so before the scheduled departure or return date.Keep in mind that there are some reasons you might not be able to travel that will not be covered by Trip Cancellation insurance.

This includes things like fear of traveling, government travel restrictions, or if you know you have to take and pass a Covid test in order to travel to your destination. These are the reasons that would need the additional “Cancel For Any Reason” benefit.

We have the cancel for any reason travel insurance, will it cover not getting your passport in time to make your trip?

If you have to cancel your trip for any reason, you can as long as you met the requirements stated in the policy certificate. There are usually three conditions that must be met to qualify for a Cancel For Any Reason Rider.:

  • Purchase the policy within 10 – 21 days of First Trip Payment
  • Insure ALL prepaid and non-refundable travel expenses prior to departure
  • Trip arrangements must be canceled more than 48 -72 hours prior to the departure date.

If you meet all 3 of these conditions, this benefit will typically reimburse you 75% of your trip cost, unless otherwise noted.
