Does Homeowners Insurance Cover Earthquake Damage?

Most home insurance policies exclude damage from earthquakes. To purchase earthquake insurance, you need to add the coverage with an endorsement or purchase an earthquake insurance policy.

We have seen a trend in the Midwest where insurance companies are reducing their earthquake risk and no longer offering earthquake coverage. Many companies never offered earthquake insurance to begin with, so your insurance agent may not have even brought it up to you as an option for you to consider. Find an independent agent like your friends at Beacon Point Insurance to work with to find multiple options available to you.

How much does it cost to add earthquake insurance?

There are three primary types of earthquake insurance available: building, living expenses, and contents. All three cover a specific area of the property or things that may be damaged during an earthquake.

On average an earthquake insurance policy in the Missouri & Kansas region can start as low as $10 per month and up based on the size and reconstruction value of your home. We see an average of $27 per month for most homes located in Missouri & Kansas.
